ATTUNE™ A Program to Help Couples with Intimacy

You Know What Changed.
You're Just Not Sure How to Talk About It.

It isn't an easy thing to bring up, even with a partner you trust completely, and it's often harder still with someone new. Yet it's one of the most sensitive subjects a couple can discuss, and also one of the most central threads in how a relationship actually feels from the inside, which is part of why couples tend to avoid the conversation rather than have it, even when avoiding it isn't actually making things easier.

Is This You?

Many couples describe some version of this: a closeness that used to come naturally and now takes real effort, or a quiet mismatch where one of you wants more touch and the other feels pressured by it, or a sense that you've had good years together and can't quite understand why this particular thing has become so hard.

ATTUNE™ is not general couples therapy that happens to touch on intimacy, and it's also not what most people picture when they hear "sex therapy." It's a structured eight-session program built specifically for couples where changes in desire, touch, or closeness have become the central concern, with a level of preparation and personalization that most therapy simply isn't built to offer.

WE START WITH THE FOUNDATION, NOT THE TECHNIQUE

Most approaches to intimacy move quickly toward communication scripts or physical exercises. ATTUNE starts a step earlier, by looking honestly at whether the foundation underneath intimacy is actually in place.

That foundation is emotional safety: feeling free of accumulated resentment, feeling genuinely known by your partner, and trusting that vulnerability won't be used against you later. When that foundation has quietly eroded, physical closeness is often difficult to rebuild directly, no matter how sound the technique.

Part of this program involves assessing that honestly with you, and if it turns out to be the case, addressing it directly before moving further, rather than layering new exercises onto ground that isn't ready to hold them yet.

OUR GUIDING PHILOSOPHY

Most couples in this situation believe they're arguing about sex. More often, each partner is living inside a genuinely different emotional experience of intimacy, and the two of you simply haven't yet found a way to make that experience visible to each other.

One partner may experience physical intimacy as one of the primary ways they feel loved, wanted, and reassured. The other may need to feel emotionally safe, unhurried, and free of pressure before desire can even begin to surface.

Neither experience is wrong, and the goal of this program isn't to decide whose experience is correct. It's to help each of you understand the other's reality clearly enough to build something that honours both of you.

What Makes ATTUNE Different

Genuinely personalized, from before session one. Each of you completes a private, individual reflection before we ever meet, covering your relationship history, what intimacy actually means to each of you, and what seems to be getting in the way. I review both, alongside a joint intake covering health and history, before your first session, so we begin from an informed, specific picture of your relationship rather than a generic starting point.

Real screening, not just a conversation. A thorough intake means identifying, privately and without judgment, whether something else may need attention first, a communication pattern that has become corrosive, for instance, or an emotional distance that deserves its own direct focus before intimacy work can really take hold. Where either is present, the program includes a specific, structured way to address it before continuing, rather than moving forward regardless.

A defined arc with real structure. Eight sessions, with a clear beginning, middle, and end, rather than open-ended therapy with no particular destination in view.

Curated resources between sessions. A companion guide of verified books, podcasts, and articles, matched to what each session covers, for couples who want to keep learning between appointments. Entirely optional, and never homework.

Evidence-informed, not generic. The program draws on emotionally focused therapy, current research on desire and arousal, and structured techniques for rebuilding physical trust, brought together into one coherent approach rather than borrowed piecemeal from different places.

What This Program is Not

If you're the partner who wants more closeness, this program won't simply ask you to accept less and make peace with it. If you're the partner who wants less, or wants it differently, it won't ask you to perform desire you don't feel, or to treat closeness as an obligation you owe.

ATTUNE tends to work best when both partners are willing to show up honestly, even when the conversation feels uncomfortable, and when the relationship isn't currently navigating an active affair, safety concerns, or an acute mental health crisis. If any of those are present, we'll work out the right starting point together before beginning.

If intimacy is one part of a broader pattern you're working through, rather than the central concern on its own, general couples therapy may be the better place to start, and ATTUNE remains available afterward if it turns out to be the more specific need.

Practical Details

Here's what the structure actually looks like: eight sessions, 75 minutes each, held virtually so you can do this from wherever feels comfortable. Both of you attend every session together. Before we meet for the first time, you'll each complete a private reflection on your own, along with a short joint intake covering the practical background, so our first conversation starts from real understanding rather than square one. Any homework between sessions stays small and is always something we agree on together, never assigned to you. Sessions are available in English and French.

Who You'd Be Working With

I'm Dr. Meagan Daley, a Registered Psychologist (CPBAO #7560) with over 25 years in clinical practice. My training in emotionally focused therapy, CBT and ACT shape how I think about this work; but what actually matters most is that I've spent decades sitting with couples navigating exactly this, and I still find it some of the most meaningful work I do. Sessions are offered virtually across Ontario, in English and French.
