Maybe you've thought about this for a while. Maybe you've tried it before and it didn't quite fit.
Either way ... you're here now. That counts for something.
If you're wondering how to start therapy in Ontario - or how to find a psychologist who's the right fit - you're in exactly the right place.

If you've never done therapy before
It's normal to feel uncertain about what therapy actually is, whether it will help, or whether what you're going through is "serious enough" to warrant it.
Here's the truth: you don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Most people who come to see me are simply carrying more than they'd like - stress that won't let up, feelings they can't quite name, a sense that something needs to change but they're not sure what.
Therapy is a space to slow down, think clearly, and figure out what you actually need. It's also one of the most practical investments you can make in yourself.
The first step is just a conversation - free, no commitment, no pressure.
If therapy hasn't worked for you in the past
This is one of the most common things I hear - and one of the most important.
Sometimes therapy doesn't work because the fit wasn't right. Sometimes the approach wasn't suited to what you were actually dealing with. Sometimes life got in the way. Sometimes you weren't quite ready, and now you are.
None of that means therapy can't work for you.
I actually pay close attention when someone tells me what didn't work before. That information is often more useful than anything else in figuring out what might.
My approach is eclectic and personalized - I don't apply the same formula to every person. In our first sessions, I take time to understand not just what's happening now, but what's been tried before, what helped, and what didn't. We build from there.

Not sure which type of therapy fits your situation?
The first step is simply a free 15-minute conversation — no commitment, no agenda, no pressure. If it feels like a good fit, we figure out next steps together from there.

Things people wonder about before starting
Q: What if I don't even know what to talk about?
A: That's completely fine. Part of my role is to help you figure that out. You don't need to arrive with a clear agenda.
Q: How do I know if I need therapy or just... a life change?
A: Often both are true at once. Therapy can help you figure out which is which and how to make the changes that actually matter.
Q: What if I start and decide it's not for me?
A: You're never locked in. We check in regularly about how the process is feeling for you, and you're free to pause or stop at any time.
Q: Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person?
A: Research consistently shows that virtual therapy produces outcomes equivalent to in-person for most issues. Many clients actually find it easier to open up from the comfort of their own space.
